Northfield and Willowbrae Playgroup is a well-established Playgroup based in Northfield Community Centre. We provide high quality childcare and education to local families in the east of Edinburgh.

We are looking for a caring, kind, motivated and enthusiastic Early Years Practitioner to join our small staff team.

Key points for this role:

•The position is term time•Start date August 2024

•Hours Monday and Tuesday 8.15am-3pm, Wed-Fri 8.15am-12.30pm

•6 weeks paid School holidays

•Hourly rate £13-£14.50 (£15015-£16747.50 per annum) depending upon experience

•Salary paid over 12 months

•We cover all costs associated with registration with SSSC, gaining a PVG certificate and yearly registration fees

•You must be educated to HNC level in Early Education and Childcare or hold SNNB/HNC/SVQ3 qualifications in Childcare/Education or equivalent.

•First Aid qualification (or willingness to work towards)

•Ideally the successful candidate will have relevant experience of working within an early years setting.

•As we set up and put away our equipment/resources on a daily basis you need to be physically fit to be able to carry out this role

•You should be an enthusiastic practitioner, who can communicate effectively and have a strong work ethic

•Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate or willingness to work towards gaining certificate

•Disclosure Scotland: • This role requires PVG clearance for regulated work with children. We will submit a PVG application on behalf of the preferred candidate and receipt of the subsequent PVG certificate will be required prior to commencement

•Scottish Social Services Council: • Registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration as soon as possible and this must be achieved within three months of your start date

 

Responsibilities of the job include:

*Be kind, caring and supportive of all the children in our care

*Spend time getting to know each child and gain a good understanding of their needs/likes/dislikes to enable you to provide individualised support and care

*Plan learning experiences for children that are age and stage appropriate.

*Respond to all care needs of children (including personal care)

*Be a Key Worker for a small group of children (maximum of 8), be able to respond to their needs and learning styles and lead small group activities

*Create exciting and challenging play experiences for children using both indoor and outdoor play space.

*Build relationships and communicate in a kind and caring way on a daily basis with the children’s parents/carers

*Assist with the preparation and serving of snack and lunches, support and supervise children at snack time and lunch time

*Carry out training on a continuous basis to enable you to keep up to date with current legislation and to continue to develop your skills/knowledge to support you in your role

*Provide updates to parents both verbally and online via our SEESAW app

*Lead large group activities such as story time/circle time/song time etc
